Responsible Owner Pledge

BASED ON THE AMERICAN KENNEL CLUB (AKC) Responsible Owner Pledge

1. The buyer agrees to be responsible for the dog’s health needs.
2. Buyer agrees to provide routine veterinary care including check-ups and vaccines and preventative medications such as flea and tick prevention, heart worm prevention and deworming. 
3. Buyer agrees to always provide adequate nutrition through a proper diet and clean water. The buyer will feed the puppy according to breed and age standards and house the puppy indoors. Puppy will be sent home on a diet of Purina Pro Plan Puppy Food, both in dry kibble and wet canned food. The buyer agrees not to make any unnecessary diet changes before the puppy is 6 months of age, unless advised by a licensed veterinarian. If diet changes are made, the buyer agrees to make them slowly over the course of 6-10 days, or as directed by a licensed veterinarian.  
4. The buyer agrees to provide daily exercise, regular bathing and grooming for the puppy.
5. The buyer agrees to be responsible for the dog’s safety.
6. Buyer agrees to control the puppy on a harness or collar and leash when in public and when off the premises of the puppy's home. The puppy's outdoor area will be fenced in and secure, or acceptable provisions will be made to assure the puppy is safe any time he/she is outdoors. The dog will not be allowed to run loose in public.
7. Buyer will ensure the dog always has some form of identification on (which may include collar tags, tattoos, and /or microchipping.
8. Buyer agrees to provide proper supervision when the dog is near or around children. 
9. The buyer agrees not to allow the dog to infringe on the rights of others.
10. Buyer will not allow the dog to run loose in the neighborhood or at parks or recreation areas except at designated Dog parks and recreation areas when dogs are permitted to run free in the presence of owners.
11. Buyer will not allow the dog to be a nuisance to others by barking while in the yard, in a hotel room, at public events, etc.
12. Buyer agrees to pick up and properly dispose of my dog’s waste in all public areas such as rest stops, hotel grounds, sidewalks, parks, etc.
13. Buyer agrees to pick up and properly dispose of my dog’s waste in all wilderness areas, such as hiking trails, campgrounds, and off-leash parks. 
14. The buyer agrees to be responsible for the dog’s quality of life. 
15. Buyer agrees to give the puppy proper physical and emotional care, and to provide basic training, and to socialize the puppy. 
16. The buyer agrees to housing the puppy indoors as its primary housing.
17. If at any time the puppy is found to be allowed to run freely, running at large, creating a public nuisance, or found to be neglected, abused, or allowed to live in poor health or poor conditions, the seller has all rights to repossession of this puppy with no refund to the buyer.
